Power Reverser shutdown is a known issue on some John Deere models. The tractor stops moving as if in neutral, and the neutral light illuminates. The hydraulic pump drive coupler is a rubber or urethane component that transmits power from the timing gear case to the pump. It degrades over time, especially in hot climates, causing a squealing noise and reduced hydraulic flow. If the coupler fails completely, the pump stops turning and all hydraulic functions stop. When the front axle inner seal leaks, gear oil runs down the axle tube and contaminates the wet disc brakes. The brakes become grabby or ineffective. Pinhole leaks in the radiator core tubes are common on tractors running plain water instead of coolant. The corrosion starts inside the tubes and eventually breaks through. Always run correct coolant with corrosion inhibitor to prevent recurrence.

On turbocharged John Deere models, the intercooler core can crack from vibration fatigue, causing boost pressure loss and black smoke under load. Check the intercooler pipes for oil residue — a leaking intercooler deposits oil mist around the crack. A boost pressure gauge reading below spec confirms the leak.
